Staying safe in your home

Sometimes we’ll need to visit your home to carry out safety checks or repairs, and it’s really important that you give us access so we can make sure your home is kept safe and that important repairs are completed.

As well as our own Silva colleagues, we sometimes use external contractors to help us complete works or checks at your home. We only work with organisations that we trust and that share our values, and we’ll make sure to let you know who’ll be visiting your home. Sometimes a contractor might get in touch with you directly to arrange the appointment, but we'll let you know to expect a call.

When anyone visits your home, it’s important to make sure they’re who they say they are, so you feel safe letting them into your home. Contractors will be carrying ID, and dressed in uniform, usually arriving in a branded van, so these are the things to look out for when someone comes to your door.

Unfortunately, there are some people out there who will pose as us or our contractors. There are several reasons why a person might do this, like to gain access to your home to steal your valuables, to offer fake services and demand payment for them, or to steal your personal information.

To keep yourself safe, please be vigilant when you’re letting anyone into your home. And if you have any concerns about a contractor, and want to check that we’ve sent them, give us a call on 0300 123 1897. By staying vigilant, you’ll help keep yourself and your neighbourhood safe from people with bad intentions.
