A Silva Homes’ retirement living scheme in Sandhurst has won a bronze prize in the Elderly Accommodation Counsel (EAC) Awards 2017.
Broadway House, on The Broadway, is one of 31 schemes to have been nominated for a top prize out of the almost 25,000 retirement housing schemes or developments nationwide.
The awards, now in their seventh year, celebrate the best specialist housing for older people, and aim to help shape the future of housing in later life through engaging over ten thousand residents, staff, visitors and volunteers who were all able to vote for their favourite scheme out of the 1,180 nominated between November 15, 2016 and February 28, 2017.
Linda Wells, Housing and Community Services Director at Silva Homes, said: “We’re thrilled that Broadway House has won this prestigious national award amongst strong competition. We are especially proud to have won this award as it is residents who have nominated us. This is a great endorsement of the excellent services provided by our staff and the strong sense of community at our scheme.
“Our sheltered and extra support housing provide an opportunity for people to downsize accommodation in later life to something more manageable in a friendly and safe environment, with help on hand if needed.”
Yvonne Baker, resident of Broadway House, echoed the enthusiasm; “I’m so pleased that Broadway House was shortlisted and subsequently awarded the Bronze Award this year - a huge accolade when there were almost 1,200 nominations nationally.
“I really enjoy living here, the staff team, community spirit and accommodation are all excellent. It’s so gratifying to see that the EAC Awards recognise that it’s among the very best there is.”
The EAC Awards were celebrated at Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Birmingham on May 16, 2017 where the bronze, silver and gold award winners for each category were announced.
John Galvin, EAC’s Chief Executive, explained the importance of the awards: "Specialist housing for older people plays an enormously significant role in helping them stay independent for longer. The security, support and great communities have a positive impact on individuals and reduce the need for NHS services.”
